Hi guys I'm not sure if anyone can help me here but I have a request!!
Im a 3d Modeler but I know next to nothing about modding. I just want to view DA:I assets and see how they are made, the wireframes, etc... simply for personal educational purposes.
Would there be a way for me to view the assets and where could I find them?

Im a super noob so im sorry if im asking something totally obvious or wrong!!

You can start by downloading the mod maker from here modmaker-updates-thread-t993.html and export assets

However this may not be very helpful if you are studying the topology of a mesh because once an asset gets exported from and engine the topolgy gets messed up due to the engine reading the meshes differently then a 3d application such as max or maya where you make a mesh clean

If you wish to learn about good body topology of a character Google is your friend if you dont go to collage for this.

Here is one example of a useful thread that explains some things

Thank you for your reply!

I think you are referring to when the mesh gets triangulated, there is a way to make it quads again if I am able to export the assets back into 3ds max or another program.

I am having issues with the ModMaker when I download it :(
I already emailed the dev team my error message, but sometimes it just says I deleted the official patch folder, but I didnt because I just downloaded it.
None of the assets are showing up inside either. Do you know if I'm doing something wrong?

It's not just the triangles that I'm talking about, some of the loops that were meant for prober deformation get lost even if you try to quadify it, then quite a few T vests are formed and engons and also unwelded vertices, and so on, but you will see once you get to view the meshes. However this does not apply to all meshes that you will export, some may turn out properly.

As far as your issue is concerned, when you started the mod maker at 1st it tells you to locate the dragon age exe. Did you put in the right path?

If you did, and you get errors, did you make sure you have slimdx installed and .net framework?

Thank you for your response again, I'm sorry I never replied.
I was able to fix the issue but I haven't had much time until now to work on this stuff.

I have another general question. Of the mods I have seen why are there no new armors made by anyone? Im aware Frostbite 3 isnt really mod friendly but is it impossible to get in game if I were to model entirely new armor/unique faces?

Basically I just want to design new looking characters/armor and just pose them in game so i suppose I'd need them to retain their rig.

we cannot import custom meshes at the moment, the tool is very limited and we can only edit existing meshes
